“Have you done x yet”
“I didn’t have time”
The Ultimate lie for what is truly It is not important to me to do that is I haven’t got time or I didn’t have time. The latter really means someone suggested it was important but it wasn’t important enough for me to fit it into my day.
Sure…sometimes we truly did not have the time to make a call or spend and extra 5 minutes at the supermarket looking for that product someone wanted.
But the reality is we most likely forgot about it and instead of being honest about forgetting it we say we didn’t have time. For goodness sake’s chuck the watch away, make a list of things that are important to do and plan and make the time. Make it happen! Why is it forgotten about? Because we place no personal importance on it.
I didn’t, don’t or haven’t got the time is my ex’s way of saying it is of no importance to me. Some of the grandest of late have been:
Have you made contact with a counsellor yet?- I don’t have time.
If the doctor wanted to see you again did you make another appointment? – I don’t have the time to see the doctor again. I have to work. (And I don’t want to be told off by the doctor for not getting in touch with that counsellor even though he has put me on antidepressants. )
My daughter complains – Why haven’t you taking me for the driving lessons you promised? – I don’t have time. When I do have time you are off with your mates. This is worse – it equals ‘I place more importance on watching TV, or sleeping in, and taking 3 hours to wake up on Sunday morning than dragging you out of bed and inquiring about your social life and making a time with you to go driving. I don’t even think to ask if you would like to drive when I go somewhere that would equal good driving experience for you. ‘
The next time you say ‘I didn’t have the time’ think about what you are really saying and be honest!
Enuff said!
[…] they understand why i don;t ask for things to be done – they are always too hard. See my post on ‘I haven’t got time’ – the ultimate excuse for more on this […]
